State Rep. Eric Davanzo, R-Smithton, was sworn in to represent the 58th Legislative District Monday afternoon.
In front of a group of onlookers standing several feet apart throughout the gallery, all wearing masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Davanzo took the oath of office while his wife, Rachelle, held a Bible for him.
Davanzo won a March 17 special election and will serve the remainder of former state Rep. Justin Walsh’s term, which ends this year. Walsh vacated the seat when he was elected as a Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge.
“Last week, we exceeded 1 million unemployment claims in the Commonwealth,” Davanzo said. “Pennsylvania is facing hard times because of COVID-19, and that’s certainly true in the 58th District. It’s a somber time to step into this role, but I want people to know that my office will be a resource for them. We’re here to help any way we can.”
