A West Jefferson Hills food service employee has tested positive for coronavirus, the district learned Thursday morning. The employee hasn’t been on school grounds since March 23.
“We learned of the confirmed case just as buses were leaving our facility to deliver meals. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately attempted to cancel the meal service for today,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Ghilani said.
Thursday morning, the district began to use an off-site facility of its food service provider to prepare lunches until Tuesday.
“During this time, we will thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire area again to ensure the safety of our food service employees and families,” Ghilani said. “Any employee that may have been directly exposed will be notified and directed to self-quarantine.”
Ghilani said the district will provide parents and guardians with more information “if we learn of any other confirmed cases in our school district community. We are committed to continuing our food service program as long as schools are closed. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.”
Ghilani also said the district is awaiting guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Health on any additional necessary measures.
