Bonding tough for first-year head coaches

Any time there’s a coaching change with a high school program, it takes a while for the new mentor and his/her players to form a trusting bond.
Now in the midst of a pandemic with schools and all sports postponed, it’s even more difficult.
Dennis Reist, who took over the baseball job at South Allegheny after three years at Greensburg Central Catholic, said he started meeting with the team immediately after getting the job and is happy with the way things have gone.
“We did some weight training, used Drive Line (baseball performance training) and group drills at practices,” Reist said. “We use the Remind app and I’m constantly sending out updates. The players created a real bond over the winter and noticed the progress. I believe they know what they need to do individually to be ready to go.”
