Sheetz will launch a free meal program today.
On Wednesday the company announced the program, aimed to help children and families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, at nearly 300 of its locations.
In the Mon Valley, the Kidz Meal Bagz program is offered at the Monongahela location and Rostraver Township off of south Route 51.
Families can pick up one free meal per child each day while supplies last for two weeks. Meals will comprise a turkey sandwich, chips and a drink.
Families interested in the meal program do not need to pre-register or call, but walk into one of the participating locations and ask an employee at the register for a meal.
One bag will be given to each child.
President and COO Travis Sheetz said the company wanted to help communities get by during the spread of the coronavirus, which has caused schools throughout the state to close for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
“The spread of COVID-19 and subsequent school closures has left many children across the communities we serve without a reliable food source,” Sheetz said in a news release. “It is our hope Sheetz’s Kidz Meal Bagz program will make a small difference and provide nourishment to those in need during these uncertain times.”
The Kidz Meal Bagz program will be available at 294 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. After two weeks, the program will be reevaluated based on community need.
