McKeesport’s Renzie Park to see upgrades

Upgrades will soon be coming to McKeesport’s Renziehausen Park.
City council on Wednesday awarded the Renzie Park walking trail project contract to El Grande Industries Inc.
The resolution, which passed unanimously Wednesday, states the cost of the project is not to exceed $188,675.
The bid proposal states El Grande will create a new 6-foot-wide multi-use asphalt trail and a new 8-foot-wide multi-use-trail that will each connect to the existing Charles Lickert Memorial Walking Trail.
El Grande will also resurface the existing system of trails. Some portions of the existing trail system will be 6-foot-wide and others will be 8-foot-wide, the bid proposal states.
The Allegheny Regional Asset District in November granted more than $980,000 to fund operations and capital improvements at Renzie Park and $223,500 of that was designated for capital improvements to the walking trail system.
“Anyone knows the trail is heavily used in Renzie Park. It’s pretty much dwindled itself to 2-feet-wide, maybe 1-foot at some points, maybe three. This will be a brandnew upgraded trail,” Mayor Michael Cherepko said, adding that El Grande will make some parts of the trail ADA accessible.
Cherepko said larger “unloading zones” will be created near some pavilions so that people renting them can pull their vehicles close to the pavilion to unload picnic supplies without driving on the grass.
