Shirley L Alvarez, 85, of Monessen, died on Sunday, March 29, 2020, in Hallsworth House Care Center. Born in Monessen on Feb. 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Twila Dixon Centenial. Mrs. Alvarez was Presbyterian by faith and a graduate of Monessen High School, Class of 1953. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Alvarez; and her son, Jose. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Twila and John Rank of Eganville, Texas; a grandson, James and Jenna Rank of Austin, Texas, and a granddaughter, Haley and Dan Freeman of Quincy, Mass.; and two great-grandchildren, Everly Rank and James Freeman. Due to the COVID-19 virus, there will be no public visitation or viewing. Family and friends are invited to watch the funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, with Pastor Mary Kay Glunt officiating.
