During the spring months, Cal U football coach Gary Dunn is usually a busy man.

He conducts practices with members of his coaching staff and spends time preparing his players for the annual spring game in April.

“We really focus our efforts during the end of March and the month of April on our guys,” Dunn said.

Nowadays, Dunn has a little more free time to spend on other important tasks.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are no practices and all activities at Cal U have been canceled through May.

So what are Dunn and his coaching staff doing during this time of social distancing?

They’re getting a head start on recruiting.

“Right now, we’re probably further along than we typically are because now we have more time to spend on it,” Dunn said. “It’s kind of turned the tables on us a little bit. We’re still able to have meetings with our guys online, but it also frees up some time during the day to spend on recruiting.”
