Storms rolled through the Mon Valley over the weekend, causing flash flooding and packing high winds.
National Weather Service-Pittsburgh placed the entirety of the Mid- and Upper Mon Valley under a flood alert Saturday night and said flooding was occurring because “torrential” rain was falling onto already saturated ground.
The NWS alerts cautioned that severe storms complete with heavy winds in excess of 50 mph and the possibility of hail could be experienced throughout Sunday.
Roads in various sections of Elizabeth Township and Elizabeth borough were under water early Sunday morning, according to area firefighters.
Lincoln Boro Volunteer Fire Company reported that Lovedale Road, which borders Lincoln and Elizabeth boroughs, had to be closed due to heavy flooding in front of Moses Electric.
