MVI set to honor spring seniors

By Mon Valley Independent

By JEREMY SELLEW

As much as I’d like to think I came up with the idea first, the Mon Valley Independent will follow suit of a number of media outlets and honor our spring sport seniors.

Wednesday, I emailed our 14 local athletic directors with a template to send to all spring sport coaches for distribution among their senior athletes.

Please fill out the form and return it with a photo so we can run a profile each day, hopefully beginning April 1.

If you’d like to participate and need a form, email us directly at sports@yourmvi.com and we’ll send one to you. We’re looking forward to hearing from all of our local seniors for this project.

Sometimes I think we took for granted having the opportunity to have a job in which we cover so many gifted athletes from all around the Mon Valley. While the coronavirus has taken away our opportunity to cover games, we understand how much it has taken away from our athletes and coaches.

We’re still holding out hope that spring sports will return soon and not be canceled, but doing this senior recognition is one way we can recognize those athletes that may not have the opportunity to play their final game on their respective home fields and tracks.
