Monessen vs. Nativity BVM
PIAA championship
HERSHEY – The Monessen High School girls basketball team proved its point.
Ranked first in the state for the past two weeks, the Greyhounds lived up to their billing by clobbering Nativity BVM, 70-48, for their first PIAA Class A championship Saturday afternoon at the Giant Center.
Monessen (29-2) also made history by becoming the first WPIAL Class A public school to go all the way.
Surprisingly, Notre Dame-bound senior Charel Allen was not the prime catalyst in her last game in a Monessen uniform.
Although Allen finished with 22 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, she had to take a back seat to junior Alicia Stein — the lone underclassman in Monessen’s starting lineup.
