Keeping in shape a priority for local athletes

With spring sports postponed for the time being and facilities at a number of school districts closed, local athletes are in a holding pattern when it comes to knowing when they’ll be back on their fields of play.

But most strive to stay active.

The Mon Valley Independent-Aul Bat Co. Players of the Year from last season, Frazier’s Logan Hartman and Serra Catholic’s Mark Black have been working at home to stay in game shape.

“The biggest thing I’m doing to keep in shape is being in the gym,” Hartman said. “My biggest passion is lifting, so I’m lucky to have a home gym that I’m able to lift heavy weights to keep myself in my normal routine.”

Having her coach and a catcher in the house helps. Jensyn Hartman, now a freshman for the Commodores, is a catcher.

“Some of the more skill-based workouts I’m doing are pitching and hitting,” Logan Hartman said. “I’m pitching on a regular schedule and working on technique. I’m really focused on staying on track in hopes of going back to normal.”
