After Gov. Tom Wolf ordered Friday that all Pennsylvania schools close for two weeks in response to the coronavirus outbreak, preparation for the spring sports season came to a sudden halt.

The postponement of spring sports mean teams won’t be able to practice and their seasons won’t start March 20 as scheduled.

It also means that a number of baseball and softball teams, including quite a few in the Mon Valley, won’t be traveling for annual spring trips.

One of the programs that relies on an early-season trek down south is the Elizabeth Forward softball team.

The defending WPIAL Class 4A champions and PIAA runners-up were slated to travel to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., to play at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from March 20-25.
