Area senior centers to shut down

By Mon Valley Independent

Area senior centers will be closed in connection with the coronavirus pandemic starting Tuesday.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging made the decision in conjunction with the commissioners in Fayette, Greene and Washington counties, the area served by the agency, to suspend all activities at the senior centers through March 27. The suspension applies to all social and recreational activities.

Meals normally served at the centers will be available for pick up only at each senior center location between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, though participants should call their local center by 1 p.m. the day before.

This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution and concern during the COVID-19 pandemic and to comply with the social distancing recommendations issued by the Governor’s Office and the PA Department of Health.

There will be no substantial change to the home-delivered meal program at this time.

The AAA will be closely monitoring this unfolding situation and will take additional steps as necessary to assist older adults during this time. For more information, call your senior center in Fayette, Greene or Washington County. You can also call the Area Agency on Aging at 1-888-300-2704 or a county office nearest you:

• Fayette County, Uniontown, 724-430-4603.

• Washington County, Washington, 724-228-7080.
