Charleroi authority sets moratorium on shutoffs

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi is adopting a series of temporary policies and procedures.

Now through April 30 the authority has declared a moratorium on new water shutoffs in recognition of the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene in stopping the spread of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

“While all customers will still be responsible for paying their bills on time as well as past due balances, ABC understands that providing water services to all individuals during this critical time is important,” said Charles Cardinale, general manager of the ABC.

Delinquent properties will still be posted pursuant to state law and authority regulations, but water services will not be terminated until at least April 30.  This policy will not affect properties already shut off.

There will also be changes at the service center located at 3 McKean Ave., Charleroi consistent with the social distancing practices that Gov. Tom Wolf has recommended for all citizens.
