The Belle Vernon Area Education Association and Belle Vernon Area School Board reached agreement on a new five-year contract late Thursday, preventing a strike that would have started today.
Ira Weiss, the district’s solicitor, confirmed the agreement was finalized around 11:30 p.m.
He added that schools will be in session today with a two-hour delay.
Thursday’s talks followed more than seven hours of negotiations Wednesday.
Union president Daneen Watson has said the two sides started with 94 issues when talks got under way more than 14 months ago and pared them down to five.
The union represents 161 teachers, counselors, nurses and education specialists in the district.
