The South Allegheny boys basketball team’s remarkable 2019-20 campaign continues tonight when it plays District 6 champion Richland in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs 6 p.m. at Armstrong High School

A year after winning just six games, the youthful Gladiators have proven many of their naysayers wrong.

“We just wanted to come out and make a statement,” said junior forward Omar Faulkner. “A lot of people doubted us. They saw our record last year and they did not think that much of us.”

“The ride has been great up to this point,” said junior guard Antonio Epps. “Going back to November, if you would have told me we’d still be playing right now, I honestly don’t think I would believe you. With us all being young and this experience is all new to us, so we’re just trying to enjoy it as much as possible.”

“It’s been great, I’m out here having fun with my teammates on and off the court,” said freshman guard Bryce Epps. “It’s just been fun, knowing last year we did not do anything like this. Now we’re in the second round of the state playoffs. It’s a great feeling.”
