A fire in Carroll Township Friday afternoon claimed the life of a 62-year-old disabled woman.

According to the Washington County Coroner’s office, Joann Wilson died in the house fire around 12:30 p.m. Friday at her home.

The fire was called in to Washington County 911 at 12:36 p.m. by family members who live next door to the 17 Grant St. home.

Carroll Township police Chief Paul Brand said Wilson’s brother, Thomas Slavik, who lives next door, was first on the scene.

“He ran to the house and tried to gain entry, but couldn’t. Then he ran back to get a fire extinguisher, but it was no help,” Brand said. “It was fully involved. I was the first vehicle here and entry into the structure was impossible at that point.”
