Ringgold grad Snyder to lead Rams’ soccer program

Former Canon-McMillan assistant and Ringgold graduate Matt Snyder was hired as the boys soccer coach at his alma mater.

There’s no place like home for Matt Snyder.
The former Ringgold and Waynesburg alumnus was hired at the February school board meeting to guide the Rams boys soccer program.
Snyder was most recently an assistant coach at Canon-McMillan for the past two seasons under head coach Larry Fingers. He’s also a head coach at the club level guiding the Century 2010 boys and the 2004 Gold boys.
“I’m very excited and coaching at Ringgold is an opportunity I’ve dreamed about since I played here,” Snyder said. “This isn’t a job I take lightly. I hold the program near and dear to my heart and I hope to build it up to the expectations I have.”
Snyder has his National “C” license through the United States Soccer Federation and has been coaching since 2012. He’s coached the middle school boys at Ringgold and was an assistant under former girls coach Kayla Fransko.
He met with parents and players Tuesday to introduce himself and his expectations for the program.
“The meeting was good. It was a great turnout and everyone seemed interested in what I had to say,” Snyder said. “It seems like there’s high enthusiasm for the things I had to say.”
Snyder is a 2008 graduate and played collegiately at Waynesburg. He lettered for the three seasons he played and was a captain in his junior season.
“I look back in recent history and I know the team was successful in the regular season with a couple of section championships in there,” Snyder said. “I think it’s going to take a few little tweaks and focus to get to the next level. The biggest thing I want to focus on is the culture. I think we have a big opportunity to have a bigger impact in the soccer community and really let the high school kids grow outside of the game.”
