BVA’s confidence grew after Uniontown loss

It’s not often that a team feels reinvigorated after a loss.
That, however, was the case for the Belle Vernon Area boys basketball team when it suffered a tough 59-57 defeat at the hands of the Section 3-4A champions from Uniontown on Jan. 24.
The Leopards, who previously lost to the Red Raiders by nearly 30 points on Jan. 3, hung with their section foe.
In doing so, they proved to themselves – and to all the naysayers – that they could compete with anyone.
“I thought that’s when we started to realize we could play with the good teams,” BVA head coach Joe Salvino said. “Even though we lost, we only lost by two and Uniontown has a good team. That built up our confidence the rest of the season.”
