Underdogs? Leopards don’t see it that way

Many would consider No. 6 Belle Vernon Area’s 66-61 WPIAL quarterfinal win over No. 3 Quaker Valley as an upset.

Looking at the seedings, technically speaking, it was. But that would be the only way Leopards head coach Joe Salvino would consider it being an upset.

Salvino has said over and over, “If we can put together four good quarters of basketball, we’re a really good team and can match up with anybody.”

The longtime coach got those four good quarters Saturday. Now he’s looking for four more tonight.

“We finally got that game I was looking for,” Salvino said following what he called a “good” practice Tuesday. “We really played all four quarters and it’s the reason we won that game. We shot well at the (free throw) line, we didn’t turn the ball over and we did a great job of creating turnovers.”
