Chartiers Valley and Thomas Jefferson know each other well.

Last season, the two teams played four times, including in the WPIAL championship, a game that Chartiers Valley won on its way to an undefeated season. Wednesday, they’ll meet for the seventh time in two years in a WPIAL 5A semifinal.

Preparation on both sides has been easy. The teams are focused, and the familiarity has made practices pretty straightforward

“The rivalry we’ve had with them this year and last year, they definitely know our personnel and we know their personnel,” said Tim McConnell, Chartiers Valley’s coach. “We know what to expect, they know what to expect. It’s going to be an exciting game.”

In terms of recent results, Chartiers Valley has dominated, winning all six games over the past seasons. The last game, though, was a turning point for Thomas Jefferson.

In January, Thomas Jefferson lost 42-41, a game that required a controversial buzzer-beater by Perri Page for the Colts to pull off the win.
