Rams crush Bears in Class A semi

While the Rochester girls basketball team doesn’t field a senior-laden group, the Rams have the experience necessary to compete for a championship.
Fourth-seeded Clairton found that out the hard way as it suffered a 57-37 loss to top-seeded Rochester, the defending WPIAL Class A champions, in the semifinals Tuesday at Moon High School.
The moment may have gotten to the Bears (20-4) as they turned the ball over 11 times and converted only 1 of 11 from the field in the first eight minutes.
“The turnovers killed us,” said Clairton coach Carlton Wade. “We were supposed to go down low. My guards were supposed to penetrate. They were in a wide zone most of the time. We thought if we attacked the gaps, we would be successful. Rochester is good, I’ll give them credit, but they are not 20 points better than our team.”
