Shirley M. Mislo – Monessen

Shirley M. Mislo, 68, of Monessen, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, in UPMC Montifiore, Pittsburgh. She was born in Charleroi May 26, 1951, a daughter of the late George Mislo and Goldie Boone Mislo, who survives. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Monessen and graduated Monessen High School with the Class of 1969. She later graduated California State College with honors, having earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in education and reading specialist. She was working on completing her Doctorate in Education at the time of her passing. Shirley was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Monessen, where she had taught Sunday school, summer Bible school and Bible camp at Jumonville. She also participated in fundraising for the church and the Holy Bazaar. She had been a troop leader with the Blue Birds. Shirley taught at the Monessen Elementary Center and Monessen Catholic Schools and had tutored students in reading. She was loved by many of her students and was a member of the Teachers of America Association. Shirley was a Greyhounds, Pirates, and Steelers fan who enjoyed travel, bingo and dancing. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sister, Mary Ann and husband David Alessio; an uncle, several aunts and numerous cousins. Shirley touched many people’s hearts and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sandy Fitzgibbons officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen.
