After an inconsistent first half, Thomas Jefferson needed somebody to step up Friday in the second half of its WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal matchup against section rival West Allegheny.

Enter 6-5 forward Ethan Dunsey.

Dunsey tallied 10 of his 14 points in the final 16 minutes as the Jaguars captured a 54-43 triumph at Peters Township High School.

“All week we were focused and we just (were able to) grind it out for the win,” Dunsey said. “We got a lot of our offense off our defense and our defensive heart was insane today. We have struggled some this season on offense, and it’s been the defense that has carried us.”
