Communities that jumped on the anti-smoking bandwagon for their parks and playgrounds several years ago are now expanding the ban to vaping.
Rostraver Township is among the most recent to add vaping to the tobacco ban under the Young Lungs at Play program, adding the prohibition to all of its recreational sites.
“It was 2015 when the board adopted the no smoking policy in the complexes,” said Tamara Spedaliere, Rostraver’s planner.
Spedaliere said the township was approached again by the group promoting the Young Lungs at Play program regarding the increase in vaping and its related health risks.
“No one knows the long-term effects of vaping, and our complexes are youth oriented. We didn’t want kids exposed to that,” said Commissioner John Lorenzo.
