Party, drink (and eat) like it’s 1933

Walking through a “telephone booth” on Broad Avenue in North Belle Vernon will take you back in time to 1933.
We’re not talking time travel, but it might seem like it when you step into 1933 Grill.
The restaurant, which evokes the vibe of a contemporary speakeasy, is an ode to its past.
Opened in August by Brandon Horrell, with help from Kenno Ludwick, the restaurant used to be a speakeasy during the Prohibition.
It’s name pays tribute to the year the Prohibition ended and the ban on the production and sale of alcohol was lifted.
Inside you’ll find brick walls, a copper tin ceiling and industrial beams surrounding by photos, posters and other décor depicting mobsters and newspapers from the era.
A modern, laid-back place to hangout and enjoy craft beer or specialty cocktails, the real draw is the food, spearheaded by head chef Lamont Johnson, who uses his own family recipes and seasonings to make sure everyone who stops by leaves full and happy.
Soon after its opening, the grill quickly gained the attention of Valley residents, who started packing the hot spot to give it a try.
