Leopards not overlooking Trojans

It’s been exactly two weeks since the Belle Vernon Area boys were on the basketball court in a meaningful game.

That performance against Thomas Jefferson on Feb. 5 is one head coach Joe Salvino wants to forget.

A lackluster performance is something the No. 6 Leopards want to put in the past when the face No. 11 Derry (7-14) at 8 p.m. at Fox Chapel in a WPIAL Class 4A first-round game.

“What bothers me the most about this is the length of the layoff,” Salvino said. “Monday’s practice wasn’t so good. But I think that has a lot to do with there being no school. I swear those kids sleep all the way up until practice. (Tuesday’s) was a good practice, though. I hope that carries over.”
