A part-time Elizabeth borough police officer is accused of forging a psychological report for another officer.
Criminal charges of forgery, unsworn falsification to authorities and tampering with public records of information were filed Wednesday against Casey Perrotta, 38, of Donora by Allegheny County Police.
Perrotta was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Beth Mills and is currently free on his own recognizance.
Elizabeth borough police Chief William Sombo declined to discuss specifics, but did offer a brief statement regarding the criminal charges and the investigation.
“We are aware of it. We have taken action internally. There is an investigation going on. It is a personnel matter and I can’t say anything more at this time,” Sombo said.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the charges, Perrotta allegedly forged a Municipal Police Officer’s Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) psychological examination form, which is required in the certification of police officers.
Perrotta was hired as a part-time officer in Elizabeth borough at the end of August along with Officer Shawn Mooney.
According to the affidavit, in the course of completing the hiring process, Mooney was made aware that his last psychological evaluation had expired and he would need to get another completed.
