Belle Vernon borough council adopted a new rental ordinance Tuesday that requires landlords to pay annual inspection and licensing fees for each rental unit they own.

The ordinance states that landlords must allow the borough code enforcement officer to inspect each individual rental unit at least once every two years to check for international fire code and borough occupancy code violations.

The two fees are $35 apiece and must be paid once per year. Additionally, landlords are required to inform the borough and pay the $35 inspection fee each time a rental property has a change in ownership or occupancy.

The ordinance takes effect March 1. Licensing and inspection fees for 2020 are due by June 30 and will be due by March 30 each year thereafter.
