South Side slope: Eagles eliminated

Eighth-seeded Serra Catholic got off to a scorching start in their WPIAL first-round playoff game at Peters Township Saturday, jumping out to a seven-point lead after the first eight minutes.

But the Eagles’ offense slowed down from there and No. 9 South Side Beaver’s length and size started becoming a problem.

The Rams used a 15-2 run in the third quarter to take a lead they’d never relinquish on their way to an 80-69 win over Serra Catholic.

“We were running in the first quarter and led 17-10, but then in the second half we slowed down and let them set up in their half-court pressure. We started turning the ball over and we couldn’t get out and run much.

“And I thought the officiating was questionable.”
