Frank Oliver Nahar, 91, of Monongahela, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, in his home. He was born June 8, 1928 in New Eagle, the son of John O. and Mildred Peters Nahar. Frank was a Monongahela High School graduate, class of 1947 and Methodist by faith. He retired in 1994 from U.S. Steel Clairton Works with 47 years of service. His memberships include the Hoot Owls Athletic Association and the Arroas Haymakers Association No. 258 1/2, both in New Eagle and the Slovak Club in Monongahela. Frank enjoyed making wood crafts, vegetable gardening, canning and had a passion for animals. Most of all, he loved spending holidays with his family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Myers Schreiner Nahar, with whom he celebrated 28 years of marriage on Aug. 7, 2019; a daughter, Marcia Nahar Babiak of Monongahela; step-children, Carrie Schreiner Olson and husband Dan of Finleyville, Amy Schreiner Parnell and husband Wayne of Monongahela, and Scott Schreiner at home; nine grandchildren, Tracey (Vince) Bavuso of Monongahela, John (Janet) Nahar of Perryopolis, Frank (Lori) Nahar of Monongahela, Carlene Olson of the Southside, Alena Olson of Bentleyville, Josh Savarino of Monongahela, Joseph Parnell of Monongahela, twins Hannah and Justin Parnell of Monongahela; five great-grandchildren, John (Kara) Nahar, Frank (Kara) Nahar, Teaha (Mike) Venzin, Phillip (Nicole) Nahar, Christie Bavuso; six great-great-grandchildren, Coby, Benjamin and Abby Nahar, Layla Hynes, Chloe and Olivia Nahar, and one on the way; brother-in-law, Richard (Nancy) Myers of Monongahela; two sisters-in-law, Virginia (Barry “Booty”) Simmons and Sandy (Lester) Beal, all of Eighty-Four; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Beverly Harkins, the mother of his children; his second wife, Rosalie Giannamore Nahar; his son, John O. Nahar II; a son-in-law, Raymond Babiak; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Myers. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with the Rev. Kelley Schanely officiating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery.
