Valerie Sloan, 69, of Murrysville passed away quietly on Feb. 7, 2020. She was born in Monongahela on Feb. 11, 1950, the daughter of the late Herbert Ashton Sr. and Margaret Zelinsky Burgoyne and step-dad, the late James Burgoyne Sr. After attending nursing school in Oregon, she returned home to raise two beautiful children. She was a loving, kind-hearted and generous soul who enjoyed music, styling hair for family and friends and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Whitt Sloan. Surviving to cherish her memory are a son, Chris Ashton of Pittsburgh: a daughter, Cindy Ashton of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Ayanna Ashton, Caine Ashton and Neil Ashton; four brothers, Herbert Ashton Jr. of Oregon, Dave Ashton and Deb of Monongahela, James Burgoyne Jr. and Cheryl of Monongahela, and Gary Burgoyne of Monongahela; two sisters, Marjie Burgoyne of Monongahela, Deanna Cook and Hosie of Monongahela; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements were handled by RJ SLATER FUNERAL HOME of New Kensington. Services were private.
