South Allegheny highest seed among local boys

The WPIAL released the 2019-2020 playoff field at the DoubleTree Hotel in Green Tree.

The Mon Valley will be represented by 11 boys teams in this year’s tournament across five classes.

Of the local teams, the highest seeded of them all are the South Allegheny Gladiators.

SA (21-1) earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 3A bracket and will face No. 14 Avonworth (11-11) Friday at Mt. Lebanon for an 8 p.m. tip.

“We’ll gladly take it,” Gladiators coach Tony DiCenzo said. “It’s been an outstanding year for us and honestly, wherever we’d be seeded, we’d be happy with it.”
