After winning the Section 2-2A title for the third consecutive season, the Serra Catholic girls basketball team was rewarded for its efforts Tuesday night.

The Eagles (16-3) earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs as the brackets were revealed at the DoubleTree Hotel in Green Tree.

Serra will face the winner of a matchup between No. 8 Chartiers-Houston (12-10) and No. 9 Winchester Thurston (14-8) Feb. 20 at a site and time to be determined.

“We had a really great year and regular season, and I think we got rewarded for that,” Serra Catholic head coach Bill Cleary said. “The big thing, though, is now we have to go out and play. It’s a whole new season and in my estimation, it’s a very balanced field.”
