Sewage Authority reorganizes, furloughs part-time employee

The Mon Valley Sewage Authority board held its reorganization Monday prior to conducting regular business.

Board member Lewis Marraccini was elected as chairman. Brooke Farmer and Catherine Tucker opposed the move, while Tommy Thompson, Paul Berardelli and Marraccini all voted yes.

In separate motions, the board also voted to make appointments for vice chair, secretary/treasurer and assistant secretary/treasurer, but Tucker abstained from each of those votes without giving a reason for her abstention.

Marraccini placed a motion on the floor to name Tucker, who had previously been serving as board chairwoman, as vice chair.

She declined the nomination.

The rest of the board members all voted yes to naming Berardelli as vice chairman, Thompson as secretary/treasurer and Farmer as assistant secretary/treasurer.

Guthrie, Belczyk & Associates, P.C. will continue to be the board’s auditor. Jason McBride will continue to be the consulting engineer, and Aaron Bialon will continue to be the authority’s solicitor.

After a long deliberation over whether to hire, terminate or furlough one unidentified part-time employee whose 90 day probation period is about to end, the board unanimously voted to furlough him, effective immediately.
