After learning via Flexible Instruction Days on Friday and Monday as a result of school being closed due to threats of violence, Ringgold students will head back to school today.
Ringgold School District’s buildings were all closed Friday and Monday after the district and local police received reports through the state Attorney General’s Office’s Safe2Say Something hotline that violent threats involving Ringgold Middle School had been made, according to Superintendent Megan Van Fossan.
The district and investigators have not commented on what the threats specifically entailed.
“Ringgold School Police Department and the Washington County District Attorney’s office are continuing the investigation into the circumstances of the threats; however, all students identified have been excluded from school,” Van Fossan wrote in a letter that has been posted to Ringgold’s website. “In accordance with the Ringgold School District policy, we continue to follow the recommendations of the Ringgold School District Police Department in conjunction with the Office of the Superintendent.
“This includes holding students responsible for all actions that violate the Student Code of Conduct through exclusion, expulsion, and/or the filing of charges, as appropriate.”
