Rams skate past Falcons behind Nagy, Bujdos

Ringgold head hockey coach Rick Kalinowski watched as his team dug itself into an early hole Monday night.

The Rams allowed a pair of unassisted goals and struggled to find the back of the net, trailing Connellsville 2-0 for 16-plus minutes in the first period.

While a two-goal deficit might seem daunting for a team, Kalinowski knows better than to count out his Rams.

Ringgold rallied and remained unbeaten with a 9-3 victory over the visiting Falcons in PIHL Class B play at the Rostraver Ice Garden.

The Rams (16-0) scored six goals in the second period.

“We can never count ourselves out,” Kalinowski said. “We have three solid lines and our defense is really playing well. The best thing about our team, though, is we can interchange our lines and they’re all still playing the same system.”

The Rams featured a balanced scoring attack with six players netting goals.

Nick Nagy scored a hat trick in only his fifth game with the Rams, while Bradley Bujdos, the division’s leading scorer, netted two goals and collected two assists for a four-point night. Evan Eberlein also had four points with a goal and three assists. Ethan Saylor, Clayton Colecchi and Hunter Bergman each found the back of the net for the Rams.

“If you think about it, we have six of the top eight in scoring and now some of the other kids are coming along,” Kalinowski said. “They’re pushing each other in practice and in games, and they’re all playing really well.”
