The Geibel boys basketball team is headed for the WPIAL playoffs. Frazier isn’t, but that didn’t stop the Commodores from playing hard in a regular-season finale on the Gators’ home court.
Frazier put together a tough second half, but Geibel got off to a good start and held off the Commodores for a 73-63 non-section win.
“We started off real well, used this pretty much as a warm-up/practice game going into (today’s) pairings. I’m pretty happy with the outcome,” Geibel coach Don Porter said.
The Gators (14-8) were quite focused in the first half, as Ryan Anderson and Enzo Fetsko combined to get the team off to an 8-3 start. Fetsko had five points in the quarter, and Anderson put in four. Cole Kendall sank a trey.
Frazier shot well from the perimeter, also, with Noah Oldham, Owen Newcomer and Luke Santo each hitting from long range. But it was Geibel taking the early 18-11 lead.
Fetsko put on a clinic to start the second quarter, rattling off the first eight points by himself. The Commodores got a couple of buckets from Newcomer, as well as contributions from Oldham and Joshua Skotnicki, but Jaydis Kennedy played well off the bench late in the period to help the Gators build a 36-20 lead at the half.
