Threat shuts down Ringgold schools for another day

The Ringgold School District will be closed and will operate on a Flexible Instruction Day again today while administrators and district police investigate threats of violence.

“Over the weekend, Ringgold School District administrators and district police were alerted to additional threats of violence and are investigating these matters,” Superintendent Megan Van Fossan wrote in a letter that was posted Sunday on Ringgold’s website and Facebook page.

The decision to close the district and operate on an FID was made out of “an abundance of caution,” the letter states.

Van Fossan said the Washington County District Attorney’s Office is also participating in the investigation.

The Flexible Instructional Day program, according to the Department of Education’s website, is a tool available to public school entities to be used as an alternate approach to delivering instruction through home- and Internet-based learning if a circumstance arises that causes school to be canceled or closed, or if customary instruction is interrupted.
