A team of students at Elizabeth Forward Middle School is looking for public support to propel them to the front of a competition.

The students produced a video for the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” contest, with voting for the Viewers Choice awards being held today through Friday. Elizabeth Forward is competing against 16 other schools in the greater Pittsburgh area for the honor.

“We did it last year and had a lot of good support from the community,” said Amy Duschek, the gifted and enrichment education teacher overseeing the project.

Duschek’s students placed second for the Viewers Choice award in 2019 and are hoping to take home first place honors this year. Duschek said the award is based on the number of votes received, so it would be an all-district effort, not just the work of a small team of students.

“It’s a big, collaborative thing that all the schools take part in,” Duschek said.

Students in the Maker Lab have been creating banners, other students made T-shirts and others printed business-card-sized voting reminders with a QR code that can be scanned to cast a vote.
