Landlords in Donora may soon have to pay additional fees if their properties don’t pass the borough’s inspection.
At its work session Thursday, Donora council discussed the possibility of charging an additional fee to landlords whose rental properties are not up to code.
Currently, landlords are charged a one-time fee of $50 for properties that don’t pass inspection and are given 10 days to fix any violations.
Councilman Donnie Pavelko raised the possibility of charging landlords $50 every time a building needs re-inspected, an idea that met with mixed reactions from officials at the meeting.
“What we should do, again my opinion, each time we go back there should be another charge whether they pass or fail,” said council President Joe Greco. “It should be $50 every time. If I go back and inspect it and it passes, fine. But if I go back and it fails, it should be another $50.”
