The Serra Catholic boys basketball team had the chance to do as its female counterparts did Thursday night and cut down the nets as co-section champs.

After a fast start that saw the Eagles jump out to a 20-12 first quarter lead, it looked like it might come to fruition.

However, Jeannette had something to say about it.

The Jayhawks won the battle on the glass, 29-21, and made free throws down the stretch to hold on for a 56-53 win over the Eagles, claiming the Section 2-2A title outright Friday night.

Serra Catholic (11-10, 9-3) had an opportunity to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining, but a 3-point attempt by Jayden Mertz went off the mark.
