Commodores drop season finale at Southmoreland

It’s amazing how far the Southmoreland boys basketball team has come in the second half of the season.
At one point this year, the Scotties were sitting with just two victories through 12 games. On Friday night, they pushed their record to .500 and clinched a third-place tie with McGuffey in Section 4-3A thanks to a 57-43 victory over visiting Frazier in their regular season finale.
“It just adds to our streak,” Southmoreland coach Frank Muccino said, noting that his team concluded the regular season and will enter the WPIAL playoffs having won nine of its last 10 games. “We were sitting at 2-10 and licking our wounds and we didn’t know where we were at. But there’s only two ways to go. You can keep fighting or put our heads down and we chose the first part.”
The Scotties (11-11, 8-4) certainly had to fight for the win against the Commodores (4-17, 2-10) as Frazier came in determined to pull off the upset.
