Lions donate bench, money for DiVirgilio complex renovations

Rostraver Township received an additional $12,500 to go toward renovation of the John DiVirgilio Sports Complex thanks to the Rostraver Lions Club.

Bob Mesher, president of the club, presented the check and a new park bench to the board of commissioners on behalf of the Lions Club and the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation at Wednesday’s meeting.

Mesher said there are multiple collection bins across the region for bags of all varieties, such as bread bags and newspaper bags. For every 500 pounds of bags collected, the Lions receive a park bench they can donate. Mesher said the Lions have donated several benches to parks in the township.

“We decided we were going to make a cash donation and donate four benches for the walking park they’re going to put in down there,” Mesher said. “And we decided also, we can probably help out a little better than that because we have two foundations that are with the Lions Club.”
