Donora hears bike trail update

By Mon Valley Independent

Residents in Donora may soon see a new bicycle and pedestrian recreational trail travel through the borough.

At Thursday’s work session, council members were given an update on the trail from Dennis Martinak, owner of Martinak Planning and Consulting, LLC, and Thomas Rebar, manager of environment services of Compliance Management International.

According to Martinak, the project will consist of three parts: a trail that will extend 25 miles through 11 communities from Marianna to Monongahela on a stretch of continuous railbed owned by Norfolk Southern Railway, a conceptual master plan for Palmer Park to include trail access and a trailhead at Cokeburg Dam.

Funding for the trail will come from $50,000 each through Department of Community and Economic Development and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grants that were awarded to Donora.
