First-place Penn Hills dominates McKeesport

McKeesport head coach Kevin Kovach didn’t need to elaborate much or mince words on what played out Tuesday between his team and Penn Hills.
His analysis was straightforward and simple.
“Tonight they just did everything right and we did everything wrong,” said Kovach.
The result was a drubbing in the form of an 82-48 win for the Indians over the Tigers in Section 1-5A play.
McKeesport (11-9, 8-3) went into the game with high energy and high hopes. It was the Tigers’ senior night, for one, but more importantly, the game represented a chance for the second-place Tigers to tie Penn Hills for the section lead. With a win and some luck afterwards, a section title was possible.
Instead, a nightmare scenario played out for Kovach and his team.
Penn Hills (16-4, 10-1) frustrated McKeesport all night with its 2-2-1 zone, pressing, trapping and forcing loads of turnovers.
Beyond that, the Tigers looked out of sync all game on offense, forcing shots and errant passes. And worst of all, in Kovach’s opinion, McKeesport was outrebounded, the toughest stat to swallow for a team that prides itself for its work on the boards.
