For Pleasant Hills resident and Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company Lt. Tom Bonura, fighting fires isn’t just a job.
Fire prevention is a way of life that has endured for generations in his family.
Bonura is now in his 50th year of working in the Pleasant Hills VFC, and his dedication to the fire department was recognized last week when Pennsylvania Senator Pam Iovino presented him with a Senate citation at the VFC’s Installation of Officers banquet.
“I was surprised and I was dumbfounded,” Bonura, who is also a state-certified fire instructor, said of being the surprise recipient of the citation. “It’s easy for me to stand up in front of a crowd, but I wasn’t prepared.”
