The 2020 WPIAL football schedules are set and local coaches have had a few days to digest what they’ve seen and take in who they will match up against next season.
Schedules for Weeks 1 through 9 were released Thursday and the defending WPIAL and PIAA Class 4A champions from Thomas Jefferson have a pair of competitive matchups against formidable Class 5A opponents to start the year.
The Jaguars kick off the season with a Week 1 home matchup against the defending WPIAL Class 5A champions from Gateway before traveling to South Fayette to take on the Lions.
TJ fell at the hands of South Fayette in the 2018 WPIAL Class 4A title game.
“It’s definitely going to be challenging, but it’s something for the kids that will motivate them,” TJ head coach Bill Cherpak said. “We’re going to be really young next year. We lost a lot of three-year starters, so we’re going to need some guys to step up and step up quick.”
