On a 31-degree afternoon Saturday, Cal U football player Aaron Carr waited to jump into 41-degree water at the Frosty Frolic.
“I’m more nervous for this than a game, to be honest,” Carr said.
Carr joined others in jumping into the Monongahela River for the fundraiser, held by the California Area School District Foundation to raise money for scholarships and programs for students.
This is the seventh year for the event as participants found people to pledge money for them to take a leap into the cold water. The individual who raised the most this year brought in $790, and the top group raised $910.
According to Walter MacFann, president of the foundation, the community did a better job than ever.
“Of all the things that we’ve been missing over the years, that is the piece of the equation we’ve been missing … getting them to raise money,” MacFann said.
