When asked what led to South Allegheny’s quick start Friday, Bryce Epps had a simple explanation. It was the crowd.

As the Gladiators have piled up wins, the community has embraced the team, showing up in droves to home games and helping create an energizing atmosphere.

South Allegheny put on an impressive display, easily disposing of Shady Side Academy, 53-38, after jumping out to a 20-6 first quarter lead.

Bryce Epps, the Gladiators’ talented freshman, led his team with 19 points.

“The crowd helped us start with energy and we started fast on defense,” said Epps. “We had the whole student body behind us, the whole community behind us cheering us on, and that’s why we played the way we did.”
